Whilst cultural, psychological and social factors are recognised to impact access to interventions such as vaccination, inequalities of access to assessment and treatment for complex neuropsychiatric problems are also driven by similar factors. These are magnified by socio-cultural perspectives of what ‘illness’ is, what constitutes a disability, the differences between visible and invisible impairments and the impact of stigma on acceptance of both people with these conditions and the healthcare professionals who treat them.
